Next New Media

Ever since the movie The Surrogate, I've always thought that the movie will become real life. Basically in the movie, everyone has a robot. Everyone in the world controls their own avatar/robot through a pod, very very similar to the movie Avatar. You have total control over how you look. You can look like Brad Pitt in the morning and become Angelina Jolie by night. They can feel, smell, see, touch, and taste everything the robot does. You're basically living your life through a robot. Living your life this way, you will not face the physical harm of everyday life. For example if you get hit by a car, only your robot is damaged. The actual person is safe and sound in their pods. Although this might sound scary, I can see this being a realistic feature of everyday life in the future.

  2. I loved that movie. The problem with that like in the movie is that people will lose touch with the real world. Like I said in my presentation, people are already afraid of that happening with New Media. Well if something like surrogates becomes real, they fears will become reality.

  3. This idea sound cool but I honestly this never comes true. At least for public use. This should be only in the military so that actual soldiers won't have to risk their lives when fighting a war.

  4. that movie was awesome! but i gotta agree with Noel. people won't actually be living anymore. it's like virtual reality, it's only good to a certain extent. aside from military use, it will also be great for people with mobility disability etc.

  5. Limits would probably end up being set up for something like this to prevent people from going overboard with it and dropping dead from neglecting their real bodies. Although I'm personally against any such limits (let the gene pool sort itself out), there have already been examples of such limits being set up (such as Korea restricting MMO playing time by throttling internet speeds at night to encourage sleeping).

  6. It is possible that we get to that point because if you think about it, currently, we can make our own characters in MMORPGs and virtual worlds. Only that we use the computer/laptop as our gateway to create these characters and enter into the virtual world of the game. In the future, it can be possible that we are probably making our own characters in the "real world" and the real person is asleep or something.

  7. I think this technology might already exist in the secret labs of our government. If one day it does happened, there will no longer be any virtual reality because by then, the virtual is the reality and vise versa.

  8. I agree with what Noel said. If somethign does come out like this, it shouldn't be for public.
